Plein Air in March

A little painting on location today at St. Francois State Park in Missouri!

Blocking in some basic colors before heading back to the studio. It’s getting a bit chilly on this sunny, but cool March day. I’ll finish this at home.

Lincoln Cathedral

This 9 x 12 inch watercolor was painted for a friend of mine, Ian Holmes. I used a reference photo taken by Ian. His photo had most of the foreground in silhouette, so I used my artist license and created this interpretation of the photograph.

Miniature Painting – Thomas Lake

Painted this 2 x 3 inch oil painting on January 5, 2019. It was 65°F which is definitely not the norm for January in Missouri. As of today, winter has returned with a couple of snowstorms and bitter cold temps firmly in place.

This scene is located at Engler Park in Farmington, Missouri. I’ll be going back to this location to paint again when the weather gets warm.

Miniature Painting – Close to the Edge

Close to the Edge (2 x 3 inches; oils)

I was able to sneak in a couple of hours of painting today after walking the dog at the park. A miniature oil painting using my repurposed Altoids tin as a paint box. There’s a trail at the back edge of the park with a bench facing an open field. A peaceful place to sit, relax, and paint!
